Advice Bleg: Help Me De-Enlist

When you’re still punch-drunk from the sudden impact of an unexpected downsizing, you must be very careful not to do the job-hunting equivalent of going on a bender and waking up next morning with a hangover, a tacky tattoo and an enlistment contract with the Navy.

I sort of did this in a very minor way, and am hoping y’all might know how I can back out of this. Here’s what happened: my Boss-Who’s-Keeping-His-Job showed me how to get electronic copies of the text of old stories that are no longer available online. I spent a good chunk of time doing that, and decided to start a second blog to use as an online clip file (yes, Moose, I know you told me to do this months ago).

Starting an online clip file is a very sensible and responsible thing to do, especially if you give said blog a nice professional title like My Name dot blogspot dot com. (None of this "feral" business. Remind me to tell you sometime how I picked the name; it was basically a throwaway joke which I never expected I'd even remember all this time later.) But I thoughtlessly used my pre-existing Blogger account to open the new blog, which means my nice new thoroughly respectable blog now has the exact same profile as does this one.

Mass profile deletions ensued. And so I wonder if anybody knows: if you have two blogs with the same Blogger profile, is there any way to separate them so there’s a different profile and contact e-mail for each one? Preferably a method easier than laser tattoo removal.

An independent profile needs a separate email address, so set one up.

Log yourself out of Blogger.

Type blogger.com into your browser and click on the "Create Your Blog Now" link and set yourself up a new temporary blog using the new email address to create a new blogger account. (We're not going to use this blog so name it anything you want.) You'll get mail at the new address---click the link to confirm it.

Log yourself out of Blogger and log back in using your old account. Find your respectable blog, go to its Settings and then the Permissions tab. Add your new account as an author.

Log yourself out of Blogger.

Your new account will now receive an author invite. Click the link within to confirm that you want to be an author. Enter your password to confirm.

Log yourself out of Blogger and log back in using your old account. Find your respectable blog, go to its Settings and then the Permissions tab. Your new account should now be listed as an author. Promote it to an administrator, so it has full control over the respectable blog.

Now delete your old account as an author on that blog.

You should now have two profiles: The old one which owns the feral blog, and the new one which is now the sole author of the respectable blog.

The new profile will also have the temporary blog you created when you set up the new account. You can delete that now.

(In theory, you shouldn't have to create a temporary blog, just a new account, but I couldn't get that to work right.)

Hope that makes sense, it's past my bedtime...

Apparently it worked. Nice background on the new clipfile blog - looks like parchment.

Hmm...Seems to still have it if you click "profile" next to your picture, so perhaps SASOB has been hitting the cough syrup again.

Yeah, I haven't had time to try Windy's advice yet. That's why it still says all my posts here are from "Jennifer Abel." Bleah.

No cough syrup - I don't care for the stuff, and I almost never drink anymore. I did just return Sunday evening from an exhausting four-day camping trip to a large antique festival and blacksmith gathering. I walked lots of miles, loaded and unloaded hundreds of pounds of stuff, and breathed more than enough coal smoke. To top things off I seem to have caught some sort of stomach bug on the last day. So I fear y'all will have to excuse me if I'm not quite at my zippity doo-dah best. Guess I misunderstood Jennifer's difficulty.

Hmm, seems as though someone's been watching too many old SNL re-runs. But thanks, Moose. I do feel better since I got some rest. I go to these things twice a year, in the spring and fall; each time I swear to myself that it's not worth all the work and time, and that it will be my last trip - but I always seem to forget my resolutions the next time one rolls around. It's really sort of a vacation and social event for me - I could get more actual smithing done at home.

Speaking of Morgan Fairchild - she's a fellow Texan, and as fortune would have it, she is exactly one day older than I. I've always thought she was quite a beauty, but her politics etc. are a bit too far to the left of center for my taste. Any woman who would date John Kerry is definitely not my kind of people - not that I'd have any kind of chance with such a gorgeous celebrity anyway.

Oh, you do, huh? Well then you would dearly love one of these festivals. There are antique dealers and flea marketers selling all up and down the highway at various places, with most of the activity centered around a number of small towns in the area. It goes on for over two weeks and is one of the many Autumn and Spring festivals or events that occur in Texas and other parts of the country. I go not only for the HABA event*, but also, to shop for various items and admire the merchandise. In addition I enjoy a bit of girl-watching - I seldom see so many good-looking women all in one place. :-)

*Pics of this last weekend haven't been posted yet, but should be up soon. Take a look at photos of past gatherings.

HABAIRON.org has just opened an account at Flickr.com for hosting its photos. Pictures of this last weekend can be seen at:

(For some reason Blogger will not let me link to them, so those who wish to see will have to copy and paste - sorry.) There's even a few of yours truly in there - not that I'd say which. ;-)

Hmm. Is that the right address? I pasted it into my browser window and only got a "page not found."

Oops! Sorry, Jennifer. Try it without the numbers on the end - like this:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/habairon/collections/

That should take you to the collections page. Then just click on the Round Up sets. When I pasted it in with the numbers before it took me right to those particular sets; don't know what happened - Smartass not so smart today, I guess.

Now I get a message saying that it looks like I'm trying to visit Haba Iron's collection, yet still have the wrong address. Dang pesky computers.

That is really odd. I've just now tried pasting in the address both with and without the end numbers. It still takes me to the page. I've used both Internet Explorer 7 and AT&T Yahoo's browser and it works in both - and whether or not I am signed into Yahoo.

I'm not sure what to tell you. I do notice that when I tried to type the address with the numbers on the end into your blog comments, Blogger cuts off all but the first three numbers. But even without the numbers the address will take me to the collections page.

Try this: type in the full address.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/habairon/collections

That is the address for the collections page. Now type a slash at the end and add the number

72157604513586224

That should take you directly to the page with the three photo sets for Roundup 2008. Checking Preview I see that Blogger lets me show the full address that way.

I will again attempt posting a link.

HERE

That should take you to the collections page.

Well somebody shine a light on me - Blogger let post the link that time!

Okay from there you can just click on the Roundup 2008 sets and run each in a slideshow. Of course, you're free to look at sets from other gatherings such as WOB March 2008. That is from a living history museum at Washington On Brazos State Park. Or check out the pictures from the Tee Tongs Demo to see blacksmith tongs being hand-forged; there are some great shots of forge-welding there (white hot metal.)

Anyways... Hope all this works for you.
