Not Subtle Enough For Fiction
Condi Rice was spot-on correct today when she said that consolidating too much political power into the hands of a single person can have a corrupting effect on democracy. "In any country," she said, "if you don't have countervailing institutions, the power of any one president is problematic for democratic development."
Can't argue with that. Incidentally, she wasn't discussing her own country (America, the Land of the Free™), but Putin's Russia, whose citizens, she hopes, will one day enjoy "the right to not have to deal with the arbitrary power of the state." She said nothing about a right to be free from torture, however, which is too bad because this post would work a lot better as an irony trifecta than it does as a mere double-dose.

I think the fact that phrase is trade-marked is itself a bit ironic.
Well, Smartass, we wouldn't want some undeserving country like Russia to use it. Did you know they're consolidating a lot of political power in the hands of a single president? That's very dangerous for democracy.
In the "Q.T." syndicated column by Zay N. Smith, he noted that Ann Coulter said:
"No, we think - we just want jews to be perfected, as they say...That is what Christianity is."
Of course, the Great Prophet, Mohamed, taught that Islam is basically the perfection of Christianity, didn't he? After all, the Koran is officially the "third volume" of "The Book", as the New Testament is the second, and the Torah is the first... That's why Christians and Jews are officially *NOT* infidels and unbelievers to practicing Moslems; they're just misguided by having incomplete understanding of the Word of God.
